The moment you step inside—or choose a cozy spot on their charming outdoor patio—you’re welcomed into a relaxed dining atmosphere where the focus is clearly on hearty, satisfying meals and genuine hospitality. Their signature Fish and Chips boast a perfectly crispy, golden crust that gives way to tender, flaky fish, bringing a delightful crunch in every bite. Meanwhile, their Poutine and Popcurds are everything you’d hope for: the cheese curds melt beautifully over crispy fries, all drenched in a luscious, savory gravy that comforts like a warm embrace on a cool day.
For those who crave a traditional taste, the French Onion Soup warms both heart and soul with its rich broth and bubbling cheese topping. The Smoked Meat Platter paired with poutine offers an indulgent, savory treat that will satisfy even the most demanding appetites. Not to be missed is the Poutine Italienne — a delightful twist that elevates the classic dish with tender meat sauce, adding a robust layer of flavor.
Breakfast lovers will find joy in their Mansfield breakfast, a perfect start filled with familiar favorites like ham and eggs. J & A Bowers also pairs beautifully with a cold, refreshing Molson Export Beer, making for a well-rounded dining experience that pays homage to local tastes.
Reviewers consistently praise the delicious food and ample portions. Rob Gowy summed it up best: “Unreal food to say the least. Lunch was so good. Service top notch. Beer ice cold, cheers, merci.” The restaurant does get busy, especially during peak times, which speaks to its popularity, though some have noted the occasional wait and room for improvement in personal table service. Nevertheless, the efforts of the staff shine through, particularly for special occasions. Kris Robinson’s experience with a birthday party highlighted their attentive and friendly wait staff, marking J & A Bowers as a new family favorite.
Whether you’re in for a casual lunch, a celebratory dinner, or a comforting breakfast, J & A Bowers Restaurant offers a genuine taste of Quebec with dishes that nourish both body and spirit. Its blend of timeless recipes, welcoming ambiance, and a commitment to quality make it a standout destination deserving of a spot on your dining itinerary.
Unreal food to say the least. Lunch was so good. Service too notch. Beer ice cold, cheers, merci.
Food is classic Quebec and comes out nice and hot and with great portions. That being said, it gets busy with takeout and dine in orders so be prepared to wait sometimes. A little more attention to detail and remembering to check in with your tables goes a long way. This place is great when it all comes together.
We were looking for a breakfast place and we found this one. We sat outside because there was more light. I had the Mansfield breakfast. It was delicious.
Wonderful experience at J&A Bowers Resturant! Made reservations for a party of 6 to celebrate a birthday. Food was absolutely delicious! Wait staff was beyond amazing! Marking this one down as a new family favorite :)
Food was really good. Service could be better. Wasnt checked on or offered another drink. Food was left on tables inside and so i asked to sit outside and told the only light was the porch light. 7pm turned to 8 and dark and no lights. Told the menu was limited 2 hours before close. Was told only a few mains would be available to order, no roast beef and a few others. I will be back, for take out only.
Everytime I go there, it is always good food. My favorite meal is the 1/4 chicken breast with homemade bbq sauce. Sometimes I even turn my fries into a bbq poutine. Totally recommend!
We stopped in for a take out when we were staying In a cottage nearby. We were greeted warmly by the serving staff and offered a menu. We ordered and our food was ready after a short 25 min wait (it was a Saturday evening so it was busy) I can honestly say it was the nicest fish and chips I have had in Canada (as a brit who lives here). I was given gravy for my chips which was fantastic! The chicken wings my son ordered were delicious and the whole meal was tasty and reasonably priced. If we are staying in the are again this will definitely be somewhere we re visit!
